John, Barry (1945- )

Welsh Rugby Union player for Llanelli, Cardiff, Wales, and the British Lions and one of the great fly-halves in history. With Gareth Edwards he formed what was an exceptional partnership. He was a master of all skills and a superb kicker (especially of drop goals). John won 25 caps for Wales and played for the British Lions in five Tests. In 1972 he caused general surprise by retiring while still at the peak of his powers. He is still involved in the sport as a guest commentator on the game for television.
