Morgan, Cliff (1930- )
Welsh rugby union player, one of the most gifted fly-halves of modern times. Morgan played for Cardiff and made his début for Wales in 1951 and became a key figure in Welsh teams during the 1950s when he won 29 caps (a record for a Welsh fly-half). He played an important part in the Welsh Grand Slam victory of 1952, and in 1953 was in the Welsh side that beat the New Zealand All Blacks. In 1955 he toured South Africa with the British Lions. In retirement Morgan became a writer and broadcaster, and in the 1980s and 1990s regularly hosted a weekly sports programme for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for whom he was once Head of Outside Broadcasts. He was awarded the OBE in 1977 and CVO (Commander of the Royal Victorian Order) in 1986.
