Here's a small selection of useful phrases in Welsh - keep your fingers crossed we haven't included a few swear words or insults in there ....
The Welsh language can differ slightly depending on what part of Wales you happen to be in so the examples below are general and will get you by if you happen to find yourself up on a mountain on a cold and dark night ...... 'are you local'

Beth ydych eich enw chi? = What is your name?

Beth ydych eich enw teulu chi? = What is your family name?
My family name is Jones = Jones ydy f'enw teulu i

Where are you from? = O ble ydych chi'n dod?
I am from France = Rydw i'n dod o Ffrainc.
We are from Spain = Rydyn ni'n dod o Sbaen.

How many children do you have? = Faint o blant gyda chi?
I have 1 child = Mae un blentyn gyda fi
We have 3 children = Mae tri phlentyn gyda ni

Shopping

shop, shops, shopping = siop, siopiau, siopio

I want to go shopping today. = Rydw i'n moyn mynd siopio heddiw.

A lot of = llawer o, lot o
Too much of= gormod o
A little of = tipyn o, ychydig o
All = pob before the noun , i gyd after the noun

Excuse me = Esgudoch fi

Open, Closed = ar agor, ar gau

Post Office = Swyddfa'r Post
Newsagent = Siôp Newyddion

Do you have any bread = Oes bara gyda chi?
Yes = Oes
No, we don't have any bread = Does dim bara gyda ni.

Directions and Finding your way about

Left, Right, Straight on = Chwith, Dde, Syth ymlaen

Where is ...? = Ble mae ...?
Where are you going ? = Ble ydych chi'n mynd?
I am going to ... = Rydw i'n mynd i ...

Straight ahead, turn left then second right =
Syth ymlaen, troia chwith ac wedyn ail dde
troia/troiwch = turn!, ac wedyn - and then, ail = second

Metres, Yards, Feet, Inches, Mile(s) = Medr, Llath, Troedfedd, Modfedd, Milltir(oedd)
Bridge = Pont

Railway, Railways, Station, The Station = Rheilfford, Rheilfyrdd, Gorsaf, Yr Orsaf
Bus, Train, Aeroplane = Bw^s, Trên, Awyren
Car Park = Parc Ceir or Maes Parcio
Airport = Maes Awyr
Port, Ferry = Porthladd, Ferri
Ticket(s), Return ticket, Single ticket = Tocyn, Tocynnau, Tocyn yn ôl, Tocyn sengl
Can I have three return tickets to Dynbych? = Gaf I dri thocyn yn ôl i Ddynbych?

Hotel, Room = Gwesty, Ystafell
Do you have any rooms tonight? = Oes ystafell gyda chi heno?

Passport = Pasbort

Commands

To form a command in Welsh you place the suffix -wch after the verb (if you are talking to friends etc you can use the suffix -a). For example: Stop! = Stopiwch
Look! = Edrychwch
Listen! = Gwrandewch

To say Don't use Peidiwch â - the â is followed by aspirate mutation. Â changes to ag before a vowel, for example

Don't walk! = Peidiwch â cherdd! (cerdd = to walk)
Don't look! = Peidiwch ag edrych

If you are talking to friends then use Paid â, for example: Don't look becomes paid ag edrych

If you really want to be known then add the familiar you into the sentence!!!

DON'T YOU DO THAT! = PAID TI Â GWNEUD HYNNY!

Week, Month, Year = Wythnos, Mis, Blwydden

January = Ionawr

You will see the word Mis (month) placed in front of the months, for example
in December = ym Mis Rhagfyr

Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter = Gwanwyn, Haf, Hydref, Gaeaf
Season = Tymor

Easter, Christmas = Y Pasg, Nadolig
New Year = Blwydden Newydd
Happy Birthday (to you) = Penblwydd Hapus (i chwi)

Saint David's Day = Dydd Gwyl Dewi

1st of March = 1 Mawrth
